I can get behind some of the lyrical content but sonically and the way this album flows makes it really hard to get through. There just doesn't seem to be much foresight on this project and it ultimanlty makes it feel lackluster, bloated, amature, and underwhelming.

I even think with the repetitive nature on the majority of songs he could have kept songs under 2 minutes or just combined some of the songs to get a better project. It was just way to bloated for it's own good. If this was a 10 track album with only the best songs, and none of the B&B skits I might have enjoyed it. There are a couple tracks I like on this album but there is just so much more bad than good. Really big disappointment but can't say I am surprised when I only enjoyed one song off WZRD. I grew up on Nirvana and Blind Melon and this by comparison is really bad. If I am being fair, if I didn't go into this album knowing it was Kid Cudi, I would have turned it off after the 5th track and thrown it in the garbage. It's not about giving it a couple listens, it's about recognizing where talent really is, and not coaxing yourself into liking someones music because you like their persona, name, and who they used to be. You can't just cherrypick what genre you're gonna play, because in reality, he's going to lose the interest that his old fans had, and people who already listen to alternative/grunge know where the good shit is, and aren't going to take him seriously. I'm all for artists changing their sound up, but it has to be done subtly, unless the artist is already well versed in other genres, which Cudi clearly isn't. Don't get me wrong, accidentals can sound good in music, but he just doesn't know what he is doing. As a guitarist of 10 years, Kid Cudi's mistakes and amateur display of songwriting, are literally audible. Drive Like Jehu, Dead Kennedys, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, are examples of bands who write this kind of music well. Being open minded doesn't change the fact that Cudi cannot write this kind of alternative music well. I can always accept new and different, that is the basis of what music thrives on. You can't tell me that it "doesn't sound right for anyone" just because it is new/different. I still love the dude's music, but this one was just disappointing.ĭude, Cudi put a very lazy effort into this album, and you cannot argue that. That said, I'm not the type to write an artist off because I didn't like one of their albums. Love was a great song and he didn't release that too long ago. Egos can be a bitch.Īlso I don't buy the fact " that" Kid Cudi is gone, referring to his MOTM days. It also makes me think back that him leaving GOOD Music was possibly a result of that. That just tells me he's surrounded by a bunch of yes men who are telling him this music is good just because they want to be in his good graces. Meanwhile, he's retweeting everyone who thinks it's good. It's also pretty sad to hear he's blocking people who disagree with his views of the album. It was overwhelming and not in a good way. I'm all for artists experimenting, but damn dude, put out a 5-8 track EP, not a double disc album. Imo his best music was the spaced-out, emo, stoner hip-hop, he's pretty much made up until this point. The only songs I think I enjoyed were Confused, Melting, and Adventures. I've enjoyed everything from Cudi up until this point, so I legitimately gave this a shot. Probably not that drastic, but just because he can make a country album, doesn't mean he should. His voice just doesn't sound like a good fit for this kind of music. On top of that, he sounds like he's out of his element.

I can't help but feel like the only reason people are enjoying this is because of the name of the artist. It sounds messy, unfinished and just doesn't flow well. But the production/instrumental aspect just does not sound good. I get people might be able to bond with his lyrics I get that.
